Governmental Entities
The firm represents governmental entities, including cities and other local agencies. We have represented the City of Los Angeles and the Airport Authority for the City of Los Angeles, the City of Calabasas, the City of El Monte, the City of Cudahy, and others, all as creditors and as parties with special concerns regarding bankruptcy cases of private companies or individuals. While governmental entities sometimes have economic interests, there are cases where governmental entities are concerned primarily with health, safety, police or regulatory matters that have special treatment under the Bankruptcy Code. Governmental tax claims receive priority treatment under the Bankruptcy Code. The firm is experienced in representing municipalities in a variety of situations. As a firm known for its fiduciary representations, we are particularly well suited for the role of counsel to governmental entities who have duties that extend beyond the pecuniary.
While municipal bankruptcies are relatively rare, the firm has been involved in municipal bankruptcies, representing creditor committees, including in the cases of Orange County and Desert Hot Springs.
